Planning Your Visit
What can I expect at my first visit?
All new patient forms will be emailed to you once your appointment has been scheduled, or you can obtain them from the receptionist upon your arrival. If you have not already completed your paperwork, please arrive 20 minutes early for your first appointment.
We will begin by assessing your general health, including the reason you are seeking treatment. You will be asked about your current symptoms and any treatment you’ve received so far. It is also important to gather detailed information about your medical history and that of your family, your diet, digestive system, sleeping patterns and emotional state. The purpose is to identify what needs to be addressed in order to target your specific complaint, and to boost your overall vitality.
I may also conduct a brief postural evaluation, check your gait (the way you walk), and the strength of some muscles. These assessments provide valuable insight into how your body may be compensating for any areas of pain or disfunction. The information gathered aids me in the preparation of a treatment plan which better addresses your concern(s).
After the intake, you will receive your first treatment.
Please allow an extra 30 minutes for your first visit beyond the scheduled session length; for example, allow 2-hours for a scheduled 90-minute appointment. This includes time for the health consultation and a full treatment. Your first visit takes longer than follow-up visits, because I want to take the time to get to know you as an individual and how your body works.
How should I prepare for my appointment?
Clothing: If you are scheduled for a session which includes massage, I will leave the room after the intake to allow you to undress and get under the covers on the table. You will remain modestly draped throughout a massage session.
Drink water: Make sure to drink plenty of water before and after your treatment as well. You should continue to take any prescribed medications on schedule.
Avoid strong scents: Please avoid the use of perfumes, colognes or strongly scented cosmetics and lotions.
What to bring: Please bring a list of all prescription and over-the-counter medications you are taking. When possible, bring along any supplements you are taking; alternatively, take a picture of the supplement’s label, including the full ingredient list and RDA breakdown. Try to arrive rested and relaxed for your treatment.
Come with any questions you have, we’re here to help you!
How will I feel after the treatment? Is there anything I should avoid?
After a session, it is a good idea to sit quietly and relax, avoiding stressful situations. A gentle walk may also be helpful. Get plenty of rest.
Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water. Steer clear of caffeine or nicotine for 90 minutes afterward.
Try to refrain from overexertion, exercise/working out, drugs or alcohol for up to 6 hours after the visit. If we have specifically focused on your alignment, do your best to maintain a neutral alignment for the 12 hours following your appointment–try to avoid crossing your legs, pulling your feet up to one side on the couch, standing with your weight shifted to one foot, and so on.
A good feeling after the treatment session should not be mistaken for full recovery. Be sure that you have regained your strength and stamina before engaging in any activities that you were unable to perform before your treatments.
You should continue to take any prescribed medications on schedule.
Between visits, take notes of any changes that may have occurred, such as the alleviation of pain, pain moving to other areas, or changes in the frequency and type of problems.
Should you ever have any questions or concerns following your treatment, contact Becky at 303-349-3835 or helpu2heal@yahoo.com.
